Hi, I'm Josie Lucas!

I am a graphic designer located in Mississippi with a Bachelor's Degree in design from the University of Southern Mississippi. As a student I won several awards, including a National Gold Addy for the video "What Big Teeth" and Top 10 in the 2022 National Poster Show. As a professional, I have worked for the University of Southern Mississippi, Jones College, Gardenia Medical Care, and helped many other small businesses find their voice in the design space.

I derive a lot of inspiration from nature and the outside world. Growing up on a farm, I became fascinated with animals and plants at a young age. Even bugs and lizards do not deter me. I currently still live in rural Mississippi and enjoy the simpler things in life with my wonderful husband. (But don't worry, I still have WIFI!)

Logos+
Branding

Logos are like the face of a company, while branding is the personality. And what's a pretty face with no personality to go with it? Asking for "just a logo" is setting yourself up for failure and, as your designer, that's something I want to avoid at all costs.

Collateral

Collateral refers to all the extra stuff that comes after you've created a brand. Think about your business cards, letterheads, social media templates, billboards, etc. Those all have to be designed with your brand in mind.

Web Design

In today's day and age, web design is one of the most important aspects of a successful business. Websites have to be able to scale from laptops to phones and everything in between and still be able to work efficiently. The less work a potential customer has to put in to finding your product, the more likely they are to become a returning customer.

"What Big Teeth"

This project was assigned during a motion graphics class at the University of Southern Mississippi. I had never dealt with motion graphics before taking this class and this video was, in fact, my first time using Premiere Pro. Our brief was to find a book that had not been adapted to the screen yet and create an intro graphic for its TV series. It had to be about a minute long and bring elements of our chosen book into the graphics.

I chose the book "What Big Teeth" by Rose Szabo, an obscure, dark novel that depicts a monstrous girl with a monstrous family trying to find her place.

Using stock images and videos, I created a sense of mystery and unease that builds with the music and ends with the title screen.
